A busy Facebook post can collect hundreds of comments asking the same things: price, delivery, "DM me". Answering each one by hand takes hours, and every hour a buyer waits is a chance they buy somewhere else. A Facebook comment auto reply answers those comments for you, in public, by private message, or both. This guide covers the rules Meta sets, what Meta Business Suite offers for free, and how to set up comment replies in Karobar that sound like you and never spam your customers.
The rules Meta sets for replying to comments
Meta lets a Page send a private reply to someone who commented on its post, but only one per comment, as described in the Messenger Platform policy. You cannot send a second private message off the same comment, and you cannot message people who never commented or wrote to you.
That single message is the door to the conversation. Once the person taps a button in it or writes back, the chat opens in your inbox and you can keep talking normally. So the private reply does not need to close the sale; it needs to get one tap or one answer.
What Meta Business Suite offers for free
Meta Business Suite has inbox automations, including comment to message: a private message sent in reply to comments that contain keywords you choose. Meta's setup guide notes a few limits:
- It is set up on a computer.
- Keyword automations take a handful of keywords and only fire on an exact match.
- Some automations may not be available, depending on the channels you connected.
That is enough for one simple keyword. It gets harder when buyers write the same question twenty different ways, in English, Urdu and Roman Urdu, or when you want a public reply under the comment too.
How to set up a comment auto reply in Karobar, step by step
Connect your Facebook Page first (see Connect Instagram and Facebook). Then open Automations, go to Comment to DM and create a new automation, or start from a preset for the comments sellers get most. The builder has four steps:
- When. Choose which comments it answers: comments with words you list, comments about a topic you describe in your own words (such as "asking the price, or saying DM me"), or every comment. Pick the posts it covers: one post, several, or any post.
- Reply. Choose Send my message (you write it once and it goes out automatically) or Karobar AI writes it, I approve (a draft waits in your inbox). Add a public reply under the comment if you like.
- Test. Type a comment someone might leave, or tap an example, and see whether it would fire. Nothing is sent.
- Name and switch it on. Check the name, then turn it on or save it switched off.
You can also add an automation to a single post while you write it, from the Automations step of the composer. See Create and schedule a social media post.
Exact words or topics: which comments to answer
| Match by | Best for | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Exact words | Short, predictable comments: PRICE, LINK, SIZE. | Free |
| Topic in your own words | Questions people phrase in many ways: "kitny ka hai", "how much?", "rate?". | A few AI credits |
| Every comment | A giveaway or a launch post where you want to thank everyone. | Free |
Topic matching understands English, Urdu and Roman Urdu, however people spell it. Comments with your exact words still get a reply straight away, without waiting for the AI. When a comment matches more than one automation, exact words win first, then the one higher in your list; drag them to change the order. One comment always gets one reply.
Write a private reply people tap
- Greet them by name. "Hi {name}!" is filled in for each person.
- One clear action. A link button such as "Shop now" or "See sizes" works better than a paragraph.
- Answer the question. If they asked the price, give it, or say exactly where to find it.
- Sound like a person. Short sentences, your usual tone, an emoji if that is how you talk.
For the public reply, add up to three versions such as "Sent you a DM!" and "Check your inbox 📩". They take turns, so a busy post does not fill up with the same line. If you prefer to answer price questions in public, Karobar AI's comment settings let you choose between giving the price in the comment and replying in a private message; see Turn on AI reply drafts.
Limits and timing that keep it friendly
Each automation has Limits and timing: a maximum number of DMs a day, a rule that the same person is never messaged twice within a set number of hours, and optional hours when it is allowed to send. These protect your Page from looking like spam, and protect customers who comment twice from getting two messages.
Facebook and Instagram are not quite the same
- Comment automations work on both Facebook and Instagram posts, from the same list.
- Story replies and story mentions can start a DM on Instagram. Facebook does not pass replies to a Page story to apps, so they cannot.
- The ideas for Instagram, with keyword examples, are in Instagram comment to DM.
Measure what it brings in
The automations list shows how many DMs were sent, how many AI drafts were prepared and how many public replies went out. Chats that began with a comment say Started from a comment in the inbox, with a link back to it, so you can see which posts bring real conversations and orders.
Mistakes to avoid
- One keyword only. People write "price", "Price?", "rate" and "kitny ka". Use a topic, or list the common versions.
- A wall of text in the DM. The first message should get a tap, not explain everything.
- The same public reply fifty times. Add versions so the comments look looked after.
- Never testing. Try real comments in the test step before you switch it on.
- Automating complaints. An angry comment needs a person. Keep automations for questions and requests.
