Meta Ads Manager offers hundreds of numbers, and most owners only need a few. Good Facebook ads reporting answers three questions: what did we spend, what did we get, and what should we change next month. This guide explains the metrics that matter, which ones to lead with for each goal, a monthly report you can copy, and how to build it once and have it emailed with Karobar.
The metrics that matter
| Metric | What it means |
|---|---|
| Amount spent | What the ads cost in the period. |
| Results | How many times the ad achieved the outcome its objective is set for: purchases, leads, messages, clicks. |
| Cost per result | Amount spent divided by results. |
| Reach | How many different people saw the ads. |
| Impressions | How many times the ads were shown. |
| Frequency | Impressions divided by reach: the average number of times each person saw the ad, as Meta defines it in its reach and frequency glossary. |
| Link click-through rate (CTR) | The share of impressions that led to a link click. |
| Cost per link click (CPC) | Amount spent divided by link clicks. |
| CPM | What 1,000 impressions cost. |
| Purchase value and ROAS | Meta calculates purchase ROAS as purchase value divided by amount spent; some values may be estimated. |
Lead with the numbers for your goal
| Goal | Lead with | Then check |
|---|---|---|
| Online sales | Purchase value, ROAS, cost per purchase | Frequency, CTR |
| Leads or messages | Results, cost per lead or message | Lead quality: how many became customers |
| Traffic | Link clicks, cost per link click | What visitors did next |
| Awareness | Reach, CPM, frequency | Profile visits and follows |
A report that leads with impressions for a sales campaign hides the answer. Put the goal's numbers first, then the supporting ones.
When sales close in chat or on delivery
Many shops in Pakistan, the Gulf and Southeast Asia sell through click-to-WhatsApp ads and cash on delivery. Meta then sees the message, not the sale, and certainly not whether the parcel was accepted. Reporting only Meta's numbers makes these ads look worse, or better, than they are.
- Report cost per message or lead from Meta.
- Add how many of those chats became orders, and how many orders were delivered and paid.
- Divide ad spend by delivered orders for the number that really matters: cost per delivered order.
Karobar's Social selling funnel report follows that path, from ad spend and chats to leads, orders and delivered sales, and the COD & returns report shows confirmations, returns and cash still to collect.
A monthly report you can copy
- Summary in three lines: spend, results, cost per result, compared with last month.
- Top campaigns: the three with the most spend, with their results and cost per result.
- Best and worst creatives: what won, what did not, and why.
- Sales reality: orders and delivered sales from ads, if you sell in chat.
- Next month: two or three specific changes, with the budget for each.
Keep it to one page. A report people read beats a complete one nobody opens.
Build it once in Karobar
- Ad Insights shows Meta, TikTok and Snapchat campaigns, ad sets and ads in one table, with results, cost per result, spend, reach, frequency, CTR, CPC, CPM, purchase value, ROAS and budget. See See your ad results.
- Twelve months of history can be imported, so this month can be compared with the same month last year.
- Reports turns it into a written report: pick Ad account audit or Social selling funnel, or describe what you need, such as "a monthly report for my client on their ads and what they actually sold". Download a PDF, share a link, or schedule it to be emailed every month. See Build and schedule a business report.
Reading the numbers without fooling yourself
- Recent days are not final. Ad results can take time to settle; judge the last few days later.
- Small numbers swing. Ten orders one month and fourteen the next is not a trend.
- Compare like with like. Eid month against an ordinary month says little; compare with last year's Eid.
- Watch costs and quality together. Cheaper leads that never buy are not an improvement.
A weekly check and a monthly report
Two rhythms work well for small businesses. They answer different questions, so keep them apart:
- Weekly, ten minutes: is anything broken? Look for ads with issues, a sudden jump in cost per result, a budget spent too fast, or frequency climbing. Fix or pause, but do not redesign.
- Monthly, one page: what worked and what changes? Compare with last month and the same month last year, and decide where next month's budget goes.
If you report to a client or a partner, send the monthly report on the same day each month. A scheduled report in Karobar arrives on its own, built for the month just ended.
Mistakes to avoid
- Every metric in the report. Pick the ones for the goal.
- No comparison. A number on its own means little; show last month next to it.
- No decision at the end. A report should finish with what changes next month.
- Trusting ROAS alone for COD. Check delivered orders too.
