# The best time to post on Instagram in 2026, and how to find your own

The latest large study, what it means for your market, and a four-week test.

Updated 15 October 2026 · 4 min read

The best time to post on Instagram is when your own followers are scrolling. Big studies give a useful starting point, and your own numbers tell you the rest. This guide shares the latest large study, what it means for shops in different markets, how to find your own best time, and a four-week test that settles it. The planning tips use [Karobar Social Content](https://karobar.io/features/social-content) and [Business Insights](https://karobar.io/features/business-insights).

## What the latest study says

Sprout Social's [March 2026 analysis](https://sproutsocial.com/insights/best-times-to-post-on-instagram/) looked at nearly 2 billion engagements across about 307,000 social profiles, from late November 2025 to late February 2026. All its times are in the audience's local time. For Instagram it found:

| Day | Best times (local time) |
| --- | --- |
| Monday | 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. |
| Tuesday | 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. |
| Wednesday | Noon to 9 p.m., with a spike at 11 p.m. |
| Thursday | Noon to 2 p.m. |
| Friday | No strong peak; avoid 3 a.m. to 7 a.m. |
| Saturday | The lowest engagement of the week |
| Sunday | One of the weakest days |

Tuesday and Wednesday had the highest peaks, weekends the lowest, and the same times applied to Reels and photos. For retail the study points to weekdays around noon to 3 p.m., and for food and drink to weekdays around 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

## Read the averages with care

- **It is an average of many businesses.** A clothing shop whose buyers scroll after work may peak at 9 p.m., whatever the study says.
- **Weekends depend on your market.** In countries where Friday is the main day off, or where Sunday is a working day, weekend patterns shift.
- **Ramadan changes everything.** Many audiences are most active after iftar and late at night during the month.
- **Content beats timing.** A strong Reel posted at a quiet hour still does better than a weak one at the perfect time.

## A starter week built from the data

If you have no numbers of your own yet, a week like this follows the study's strongest windows while leaving the weak days for lighter content:

| Day | Time (your audience's local time) | What to post |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Monday | 3 p.m. | New arrival or restock |
| Tuesday | 5 p.m. | Your strongest Reel of the week |
| Wednesday | 1 p.m. or 8 p.m. | Carousel: a collection or how-to |
| Thursday | 1 p.m. | Customer photo or review |
| Friday to Sunday | Any time | Stories only, unless you are testing |

In Karobar, times in the composer and calendar are shown in your time zone. If most of your buyers live in another country, convert the times first, or set them while looking at their local clock.

## Things to check in your own market

- **Prayer times and the Friday afternoon** can quiet audiences in Pakistan and the Gulf for an hour or two.
- **Payday weeks** often bring more buying intent; plan offers for them.
- **Big shopping dates** such as Eid, 11.11 or Black Friday move attention days earlier than the date itself.
- **Commute hours** matter in big cities where people scroll on the way to and from work.

## Find your own best time

1. **Instagram's own insights.** Sprout points to the "Most active times" view under your followers in Instagram Insights.
2. **Karobar Business Insights.** The **Best Time to Post** section shows when your audience is most active, next to your followers, reach and best posts. Connect your accounts and sync them first.
3. **Your inbox.** Look at when DMs and comments arrive. The hours your customers write to you are the hours they are on Instagram.

## A four-week test that settles it

Pick two or three candidate times, for example 1 p.m., 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Then:

1. Plan four weeks of posts in the [content calendar](https://karobar.io/help/use-the-content-calendar), rotating the times so each one gets similar posts.
2. Keep the formats balanced: do not put all the Reels at one time and all the photos at another.
3. After four weeks, open the **Content** tab and compare reach and engagements per time slot.
4. Move most of your posts to the winner, and keep testing one new slot a month.

Schedule the posts ahead so the test does not depend on someone being free at 9 p.m. See [How to schedule Instagram posts, Reels and Stories](https://karobar.io/guides/schedule-instagram-posts).

## Stories and replies follow different rules

- **Stories** last a day, so the hour matters less. Post them when something happens: stock arriving, an order packed, a customer's photo.
- **Replies** matter more than timing. A post that gets quick answers to its first comments keeps people talking. Plan who answers comments in the hour after each post.
- **Offers** should go out early enough in the day for people to act, not at 11 p.m. when the courier has stopped taking orders.

## Mistakes to avoid

- **Copying a time from a study without checking.** Use it as a first guess, then test.
- **Posting in your time zone for a foreign audience.** If most buyers are in another country, plan in their local time.
- **Changing everything at once.** Change the time or the content in a test, not both.
- **Chasing the hour and skipping consistency.** A steady weekly rhythm matters more than the perfect minute.
